About the chemistry department

The Department of Chemistry was established in 1964 and has graduated many classes every year since the year of foundation. The Department of Chemistry contains a large number of professors in various subspecialties of chemistry and many rare specialties, which led to the graduation of many holders of higher degrees. The Department of Chemistry has supplied many industrial sectors in Iraq with graduates and scientific competencies. The Department of Chemistry also contributes to community service through conducting research, specialized studies and patents that contribute to improving the quality of life in the visual community in particular and the Iraqi community in general.

 

Vision:

The department seeks to be a center of excellence and innovation in quality practices in all colleges and centers of the University of Basrah through the application of modern quality systems, tools and methodologies, ensuring their quality and the continuous development of the university education system, which qualifies the university to obtain programmatic and institutional accreditation from international accreditation bodies and the university’s entry into international classifications and To achieve the strategic goals of the university.

To ensure quality, evaluate university performance, and continuously improve the quality of the education system at the university through the use of the latest models and practices to ensure quality, evaluate performance, and follow up on implementation to achieve the university’s goals (teaching, learning, scientific research, and community service) and raise the level of efficiency and competitiveness of the university and its educational outputs and prepare for international academic accreditation.

 

Objectives

1- Contribute to the achievement of the university's goals related to raising the academic level of the university's faculties through the application of the concept of quality.

2- Work to build an integrated system for continuous and annual self-evaluation for all university operations and operations, and follow-up implementation and evaluation plans for faculties.

3- Implementing the appropriate training programs according to the needs of the actual application of the approved quality programs for the cadres working in the department or colleges, and proposing the programs required by the implementation process outside or inside Iraq.

4- Providing support and advice to the various faculties of the university in all matters related to quality and academic accreditation.

5- Providing support to colleges and centers in selecting and adopting standards that will be adopted as a starting point towards academic accreditation.

6- Putting data and statistics on faculties, centers and departments at the university to ensure that they are used in writing reports related to quality and academic accreditation.

7- Develop a plan to implement the quality program in the faculties and its affiliated centers through the links between the department in the university center and the quality divisions affiliated with the faculties.

8- Establishing scientific and professional relations between the university and international academic accreditation institutions for the application of quality and academic accreditation.

9- Monitoring the extent of commitment of colleges, centers and university departments to quality standards and submitting reports to the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Council at Babylon University.

10- Evaluating the performance of university affiliates and setting clear measures to evaluate and improve the performance of faculty members based on activating the university’s faculties and academic departments, in accordance with the University Service Law and under the supervision of the Quality Assurance and University Performance Department.

11- Spreading the culture of quality among the university’s employees regarding the teaching and student, scientific research, the scientific project and the administrative aspect.

12- Conducting studies and holding conferences, seminars, meetings and workshops in the field of quality and academic accreditation.

13- Building distinguished expertise in the field of quality, evaluation and academic accreditation in university education.

14- Working hard and researching the requirements of the labor market and trying to satisfy the university's clients (internal and external).

15- Proposing the formation of sub-committees and work teams necessary to implement the university's quality objectives and activities.

16- Supervising the implementation of excellence awards programs at the college or deanship level for teaching, research or career performance.

17- Encouraging the spirit of competition between the faculties of the university to improve the educational process and its outputs.

18- Supporting the university to enter international rankings.
