The University of Basrah, organized a seminar on Water Quality index.
The College of Science at University of  Basrah organized a seminar on Water Quality index
this seminar  represented by the MSc. Student Dhuha Muhammad Jassim , the lectured concerned the  use at Water Quality index , Canadian water quality index (WQI) was used to deduced the difference in water quality during tide and ebb and whether Shatt Al Arab river was stratified or not .WQI is an efficient method and precise to measure riverine water quality and stratification in Shatt .Monthly water samples from surface and bottom layers were collected from July 2019 to June 2020 at the middle part of the Shatt nearby Basrah city during a tidal cycle.
WQI results of Shatt al Arab fall into two categories marginal and poor during spatial and temporal study. Yearly results obtained indicated that Mhala station showed stratification during the tide between surface and bottom layers and later disappear in ebb. In Bradyea station showed mixing status between surface and bottom layers and no stratification existed during tide and ebb. Bradyea station could be consider as the upper limit for effect of Gulf salt wedge. Clear stratification between surface and bottom layers appear in Hartha station due to effect of drainage water from East Hammer marsh and electrical power stations
